CLACC-C VIRTUAL JUNIOR PANFEST 2020
This culminating semi-virtual event of our 2020 Youth Pan Fest took place on August 29th as a video shoot. The band directors suggested a competitive format for this event, as the kids would put forth a better and more energetic performance. In addition to securing a large enough location, this would also mean providing experienced musicians and musical engineers to judge each performance in the same location. We also held a short award ceremony at the end of the performances which also involved a photo with the soloists/bands and their trophies who scored highest in their performance. Judging criteria in arrangement included introduction, re-harmonization, melodic and motivic development. General performance included interpretation, dynamics, creativity and balance, Quality of sound and blending of the instrument. Rhythm included consistency.

CLACC-C VIRTUAL JUNIOR STEELPAN WORKSHOP 2020
Virtual Youth Pan Workshops:. The goal of this program is to generate increased interest in the steel pan by a growing amount of younger musicians and potential future Arrangers. This event provides a sense of purpose for our youth in the community. It keeps them off the streets and engaged while working together in the spirit of TEAM. The series of Virtual Steelpan Workshops for children ages 8-16, includes breakout rooms for purpose of individual assistance. The instructors teach concepts to include reading simple music while learning to play the scale (reading a rhythm - up to 8 measures of music). Instruction utilizes a steelpan App. The kids are also able to be creative by utilizing cardboard cut outs for those who do not have the availability of the instrument. We also provide pan sticks (mallets) that are custom made for the students as part of the program so that they can learn techniques combining left to right hand strokes for purpose of building skill and precision, while training the muscles, as a strategy.
